WA: Man dies after stolen fire truck used in gun shop ram raid
Emergency authorities in Western Australia have expressed regret at the death of a
man who died in a stolen fire truck that crashed during a police chase.
Police say the Toyota had been used in a ram raid on a gun shop.
Detectives are still investigating the chain of events that led to the death of the
man in his early 20s, who has not been identified.
They say the stolen four wheel drive water carrier crashed into a telegraph pole near
Brigadoon, 35km north east of Perth in the early hours of this morning.
Another man in the car at the time, also unidentified and in his early 20s, remains
in a critical but stable condition in Royal Perth Hospital.
Police say the truck was earlier used to smash through the front of the nearby Midvale
Gun Mart, where more than 20 rifles were stolen.
An internal police investigation's underway, while the Fire and Emergency Services
Authority has described the incident as a tragedy.
