NSW: Newsagent fights back against armed robber

SYDNEY, April 18 AAP - A Sydney newsagent threw a table and chair at an armed robbercausing the assailant to flee the store, police said today.

The robber, armed with a knife and a cap gun, is believed to have punched the 59-year-oldHurlstone Park shopkeeper several times and threatened him with a knife before his victimfought back.

The balaclava-wearing armed man demanded money after entering the store on New CanterburyRoad at about 5.50pm (AEST) yesterday.

Police said the newsagent threw the table and wooden chair at the robber, who was distractedby a customer coming into the shop.

The armed man was last seen running east along Old Canterbury Road.

He was described as 20-22 years old, 165cm tall, with a stocky build. He was wearinga blue, long-sleeved shirt, black balaclava and a blue Puma brand cap.
