Mainline chic marks Adolfo's fall designs

Adolfo, who dresses the best-dressed, thinks there's nothingwrong with fashion excitement for excitement's sake.

"It doesn't matter if it doesn't sell. Sometimes it's nice todo something just to get it out of your system," said thesoft-spoken, gentle-mannered designer on a recent visit to Saks FifthAvenue.

What he got out of his system for fall was no grand theme, suchas his Infanta collection in the '70s. It was a group of brocadedinner suits so short and so tight he didn't even bring them with himto Chicago.

"I thought they were too extreme. Now I think I could have soldthem," he said, grinning. The price? A hefty $2,500.
